WORD LOVERS - GETTING OUR STORIES DOWN THIS SPRING
Fellow Readers and Writers:

If you're interested in a weekend away to make your stories come alive, come to Lakeside to spend the weekend with writers Les Roberts, Kelly Ferjutz, and Debbie Alferio, who will focus on elements of storytelling on Saturday, June 9. If you're not a wrtier but want to be, if your memoir needs some sprucing up, if you want to figure out the best way to write a novel that's been nagging at you, the spring Word Loers retreat is just the thing for you.  We still have a couple rooms available at the Idlewyld Bed and Breakfast, and I hate to waste the space. If you're interested in joining us, let me know as soon as possible.

IDLEWYLD BED & BREAKFAST AT LAKESIDE
Friday, June 8, through Sunday, June 10, 2012

Come early on Friday to work hard, then join the group on Friday evening to get feedback on your concept, title, and jacket-cover presentation.

Les Robertswill be the writer-in-residence and will be available for individual critique sessions for a $30 fee.

Saturday's schedule begins with Debbie Alferio, who will lead a program on characterization. Writer Kelly Ferjutzwill lead a workshop on scenes and bringing the reader into the story. At the end of the day, Les will then bring us to focus on dialogue. You will want your manuscripts handy to mark them up throughout the day.

Here's a roundup on the sessions:

Bring your reader into your story by using their senses to complement your sensibility. Touch, Smell, Sight, Sound and Taste leave lasting impressions. Here's how to help your characters bring the story to life in the reader's imagination. Kelly Ferjutz is a busy local free-lance writer, editor, proof-reader and reviewer. She is published in long and short fiction and non-fiction, with over 1000 on-line credits since 2002. Her current claim to fame is living less than 500 feet from the shores of Lake Erie - a life-long ambition, newly realized.

Good dialogue is harder than you think. How people talk in real life and the way it differs from how people talk ont he page, creating dialogue that differs for each character, and working it in between the narrative to move the story forward are important skills. Les Roberts turned to mystery writing after 24 years as a film and TV writer-producer in Hollywood. In between, he's been a professional actor, jazz singer, musician, teacher, book critic, and currently does movie reviews for "Greenlight Reviews" on the Internet. A multiple prize winner and holder of an Honorary Doctorate from Cleveland State University, he just finished his 27th book.

Debbie Alferio believes a story is less about the plot and more about the characters involved. In her course, she will discuss how to develop well-rounded, believable characters through the use of physical attributes, personality traits, flaws, and even catch phrases. You'll soon learn to create characters that will drive your stories and keep the readers coming back for more. Debbie Alferio is an award-winning author and speaker whose Forever Love series was inspired by an actual dream. She has appeared in local television, radio, and newspaper interviews, and is listed in two Who's Who directories. Debbie is the Ohio Representative for Authors Across America and a member of the International Writer's Association, American Author's Association, Ohio Professional Writers, Writer's Ink, and the Sauna Friends Writer's Group.
