I usually do not contribute any thoughts on local productions, but I recently had the pleasure of seeing the musical 13 at Beachwood Community Theatre with my 12 year old daughter ...and we were both blown away. It is beautifully directed, acted, executed, and I urge anyone who enjoys contemporary musical theatre to get yourselves to their closing weekend! Info below.

Who doesn’t remember turning “13”? It’s an awkward time with or without the
stress of preparing for a Bar Mitzvah. “13” is also a hit musical with lyrics
and music by Jason Robert Brown and book by Dan Elish, and Robert Horn.

Plot: 12 year old Evan Goldman is uprooted from NYC and forced to move with his
mother to Indiana. He must maneuver his way through a new Jr. High school
trying desperately to "fit in", while preparing for his Bar Mitzvah.

“13” is a high-energy musical about growing up, dealing with change and learning
That “becoming who you want to be - begins with discovering who you are”. It's
a musical written for teens, performed by teens and appeals to the “13” year old
lurking within each of us. All of these fabulous actors are ages 12 – 17. Performers
hope to give back to the community by donating profits from refreshment sales to
3 important causes. The first weekends refreshment proceeds will benefit
breast cancer research. The second weekend’s refreshment proceeds will be
donated to assist people with degenerative muscular diseases and the third
weekends profits from refreshments will benefit ALS research. “It’s a beautiful
message to send to both the cast and the community. BCT's philosophy, “When a group of people
come together for a common goal why not also give back to the community at the
