FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GYMNASTICS GROUP MOVES EXHIBITION TO
SOLON; INCLUDES CONCERT BAND  AND FOLK DANCING
Sokol
Greater Cleveland, a Czech gymnastics and cultural organization tracing its
roots back to the late 1800s, holds two exhibitions each year, one in winter
and one in summer.  This year, the group
has chosen Solon Community Park for their outdoor summer gymnastic exhibition, citing
the many favorable amenities of the Park and particularly the accessibility for
handicapped persons which had been lacking at the previous location.   The Exhibition begins at 2 pm on Sunday, June
10th at the Park and is open to the public.

The
Sokol program of physical and cultural education was formulated in 1862 by Dr
Miroslav Tyrs, a professor of the Charles University in the Austrian Czech
lands and based on the philosophy of “a sound mind in a sound body.”  Outlawed during both Nazi and Communist rule
of what was then Czechoslovakia, the movement survived  through the emigration of Czechs throughout
the world, and introduced in the U.S. by Czech-land immigrants in 1865.  The Sokol Greater Cleveland organization is
one of the largest and most active in the U.S.

Showcasing  the accomplishments in a variety of
gymnastics and physical fitness of all ages, the Sokol programs encompass
classes for tots ages 3 to 5, girls and boys ages 6 to 12, junior girls and
boys ages 12 to 17, as well as adult participants to the age of 80+.  All of these classes will be represented at
the Exhibition.  In addition, the Exhibition
includes music and dancing.  The Sokol Greater
Cleveland Concert Band and the Sokol Greater Cleveland Folk Dancers will
perform.

In
addition to attending the Exhibition, families are encouraged to enjoy the amenities
of the Park.  Solon Community  Park opens at 8 a.m., offering a day-long opportunity
for family fun.  Paved parking and
walkways lead to a childrens’ play area, volleyball courts, a pavilion with
grills, and handicapped accessible facilities, including cart transportation to
the field.  A concession stand near the
exhibition field will offer food and refreshments.   The Park is located at 6679 SOM Center
Road across from the Solon Public Library.  Gate admission is $7 per person and is open to the public.  Advance sales are $5 per person by calling
216-642-1429.  Children under 12 are
free.   Further information is available
at the same phone number or by visiting the Sokol Greater Cleveland website www.sokolgreatercleveland.org.
