High School Stage Combat Workshop at Ohio University

Students must be at least 15 years old and/or entering their sophomore year in high school.  A separate course is listed for college students.
The Summer Stage Combat Workshop at Ohio University is an introduction to creating the illusion of violence for stage and screen.  This workshop will cover the basics of safely performing stage combat.  Specific techniques in multiple theatrical weapons such as broadsword, knife and single sword will be covered for fundamental skills that promote safety and dramatic effectiveness.  Short scenes will be developed and presented on the last meeting day for family and friends.
Instructors:
Brian Evans is an Assistant Professor in the School of Theater at Ohio University.  He is a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors, http://www.safd.org/
Brian has choreographed for Oxford Shakespeare Festival, Monomoy Theatre and numerous colleges and universities including The University of Mississippi and Marietta College.  He has taught at regional workshops in Chicago, Cincinnati, North Carolina and Louisiana as well as high school workshops across the country.
Tonya Lynn is a freelance actor, fight choreographer, and teacher based in Pittsburgh, PA. She is an Advanced Actor-Combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors, and has also trained with the United Stuntmen's Association.  Tonya particularly enjoys providing young actors with an introduction to the field of stage combat, and she has served as a guest instructor for Hope Academy for Music and the Arts, the Pittsburgh CLO Academy Summer Camp, as well as serving on the staff of regional stage combat workshops in Cincinnati, Iowa, and North Carolina.
