Lakeland Theatre Announces 2012-2013 Season: Two Pulitzer Prize-winning plays:
Northeast Ohio premiere of Next To Normal and
David Auburn’s Proof
Lakeland Civic Theatre is delighted to announce its’ 2012-2013 season presenting two Pulitzer Prize-winning plays to Northeast Ohio audiences.
Opening on September 28 and written by David Auburn, Proof is a Tony awarding winning family drama and a psychological mystery surrounding the authorship of a potentially revolutionary mathematical proof. While Proof takes its name from a mathematical procedure, this is not a play limited to those with a mathematical bent. On the contrary, you don't even have to know what a prime number is to understand this smart, fast-paced drama.
Proofruns for 9 performances from September 28 through October 14. Sets and lights are designed by Keith Nagy and Martin Friedman directs. Tickets are $13 for adults and $10 for seniors and $7 for students. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM.
Following their acclaimed productions of Sweeney Todd, Assassins, Anyone Can Whistle and Death of a Salesman, set and lighting designer Trad A Burns and Friedman again pick up the gauntlet to present their take on the Pulitzer Prize-winning examination of mental illness and the family in Next to Normal. With music by Tom Kitt and book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, this 2008 Tony Award-winning musical concerns a mother whose struggles with worsening bipolar disorder and the effect that her illness has on her family. The musical also addresses such issues as grieving a loss, suicide, drug abuse, ethics in modern psychiatry and suburban life. According to the Pulitzer Board, Next to Normal is a "powerful rock musical that grapples with mental illness in a suburban family and expands the scope of subject matter for musicals."
Next to Normalruns for 10 performances from February 1 through 17, 2013. Tickets are just $15 for adults and $13 for seniors and $7 for students.
