JOB DESCRIPTION

Organization Background

The Players Guild Theatre was founded in 1932
by Mr. and Mrs. Ber­nard Truxton, who were committed to fostering a lifelong
appreciation of the arts among citizens in our community. Since that time, the
Players Guild has produced over 600 productions to more than 2,000,000 audience
members spanning two centuries and nearly five generations. Today the theatre
is operated by a professional theatre staff and a Board of Directors and
presents world-class productions for our community.

Our Mission / Goals

 The Players Guild Theatre is a volunteer-based, professionally staffed the­atre dedicated to producing shows
that stimulate, enhance and uplift the quality of life for both its audiences
and volunteers. The Guild also exists to offer instruction in theatrical and
performing arts for all ages through production experience, classes, workshops,
special programming and out­reach activities. At the Players Guild Theatre,
volunteers work side by side with professionals in order to maintain the
highest standards of pro­duction encourage individual creativity and enhance
understanding and appreciation of live theatre.

Position Summary

The Managing Director shall be responsible to the Board for executing all policies established by the Board. 
Subject to the direction and control of the Board, the Managing Director shall have general charge of The Players
Guild's business and shall perform such duties as are usually associated with the office of Chief Executive Officer.          

Position Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning

·       Provide leadership to the organization by assisting
the Board with development of long and short-term strategic plan(s)
·       Evaluate and report on the progress of strategic
plan(s) and their implementation
·       Developing the annual budget, including providing
monthly financial reporting and forecasting, cash flow management, and
expenditures review and approval.
·       Actively engage and energize The Players Guild
volunteers, board members, event committees, partnering organizations, and
funders.
·       Cultivates a strong partnership with the Board of Directors in setting policies consistent
with the Mission of the Players Guild.  Works, as needed, with all standing and ad hoc committees of the Board.

Leadership and Management

·       Supervises the administrative staff and directs administrative
operations.
o   These administrative positions may include, without limitation, an office manager, a
bookkeeper, a box office manager; together with such ancillary paid and
volunteer assistants as may be advisable and feasible within the organization
of The Players Guild.
·       Appoints an Artistic Director to have general artistic oversight of the productions of The
Players Guild.
·       Appoints such other creative positions as are required for the maintenance of the
tradition of excellence in the productions of The Players Guild, the
compensation of whom shall be fixed by the Board.
o   These creative positions may include, without limitation, a Technical Director, a Costume Designer, an Education
Director; together with such ancillary paid and volunteer assistants as may be
advisable and feasible within the organization of The Players Guild.
·       Act as the representative and advocate of the Theatre with government agencies, community and local business groups and arts
organizations.
·       Annual planning in collaboration with the Artistic Director regarding show scheduling with final decision making regarding show
choice.
·       Ascertains that employment policies are adhered to in all employment practices and partners with the Board to implement changes.
·       Ensures the organization has the appropriate systems, physical space, and technology to operate efficiently and effectively.

Fundraising & Communications

·       Providing leadership for and actively participating in fundraising activities, donor
development, grant seeking and grant reporting. 
·       Deepen and refine all aspects of communications from web presence to external
relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
·       Develop a clear marketing plan that provides a clear and concise message telling the
organizations story and promotes participation at the Players Guild Theatre.

Program Development and Implementation 
 
·       Oversee and support the development, design, and delivery of all program initiatives
assuring the goals and objectives are aligned with the Players Guild Theatre,
Inc. strategic plan.
·       Oversee and support the administrative components of all program services, including
contract negotiations, contract and grant reporting, and contracted work.

Qualifications

·       Advanced degree with at least 10 years of
senior management experience; track record of effective leadership.
·       Ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization
to the next stage of growth
·       Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
·       Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and
achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
·       Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
·       Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders
and cultures
·       Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal
and multidisciplinary project skills
·       Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
·       Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
·       Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
·       Demonstrated success of effectively leading change and organizational growth
through strategic planning.
·       Demonstrated success in acquiring agency support through successful grant
applications and general fund raising.
·       Strong fund development, marketing and public relations experience to
successfully engage stakeholders, including funders, business partners, policy
makers, media and communities.
