Special World War II
Play at Victorian Players

The Victorian Players at 702 Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown, will present a Special Event this summer based on the true story of Albert Wickline from Salem, Ohio.  Titled Dog Days, this original script by J.E.Ballantyne, Jr. tells the story of Wickline who was a tail gunner in a B-17 during its return trip from a bombing raid in Germany on October 14, 1943.  The plane is shot down over France forcing Wickline and his crew to bail out.  Running for his life to avoid capture, Wickline is found by a French family who takes him to their farmhouse where they hide him for the next thirteen months.  Based on the video account by Wickline himself, Dog Days tells the incredible story of the Meraud family and their extraordinary efforts to keep Wickline hidden from the Nazis.

Playing the role of nineteen year old Albert Wickline is Liberty High School actor, Davin Stilson.  Stilson was recently seen in Liberty’s production of A Light in the Darkness: A Story of Hope During the Holocaust.   Playing the family hiding Wickline is Bill Shorr of New Castle, Pa. as Louie, Audrey Allen as his wife Marie, Brian Root as their son Marcel, and Camille Smith as their daughter Denise.  Others in the cast are Thomas Lee Ewen, Ryan Newell, Gary Deckant, Ed O’Malley, Gerri Jenkins, Chuck Creiger, Christopher Chaibi, Josh Fleming, Vinnie Dragos, and Josh Lankford.

Dog Days will open on Friday, July 20 with a Special Wine and Cheese Reception beginning at 6:30 pm. at the theater.  The show will run weekends through Sunday, August 5.  The Victorian will also honor all military veterans and current military personnel during the run of Dog Days.  By showing a military ID,  veterans as well as current military personnel, can purchase a ticket for $5.00.   Plans are also being made to honor a different military organization each evening prior to the start of the performance.  If you would like information on having your military organization honored, please call 330-799-6176.
