Children of Eden

Based on a concept by Charles Lisanby   Orchestrations by Bruce Coughlin and Martin Erskine

Our fall, holiday, intergenerational, multicultural, multiracial blockbuster will be Children of Eden, a musical that originally starred Stephanie Mills (Broadway's Dorothy in The Wiz). From Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Pippin) and John Caird (Jane Eyre) comes a joyous and inspirational musical about parents, children and faith - not to mention centuries of unresolved family business! Freely based on the story of Genesis, Children of Eden is a frank, heartfelt and often humorous examination of the age-old conflict between parents and children. Adam, Eve, Noah and the "Father" who created them deal with the headstrong, cataclysmic actions of their respective children. As they move through life's changes, the characters struggle with one of life's greatest truths: that "the hardest part of love...is letting go." Songs include "In Whatever Time We Have," "Spark of Creation" and "Ain't It Good." We will be casting a huge ensemble of children, teens and adults.

Auditions: August 21, 22 & 23, 2012
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

(Ages 7 - 12 yrs.)
6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

(Ages 13 yrs. & up)
7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
This is a group audition.  Come one of these evenings.
Plan to stay for the entire time specified.

3606 Bridge Avenue, 3rd Floor, (W. 38 Street & Bridge Avenue)

Arrive 15 minutes early to register
Anyone arriving after the starting time will not audition that day.

About the Audition
All roles are open.  No experience necessary.  No prepared material needed.
A relaxed, playful and friendly atmosphere.
Wear comfortable clothing & shoes for dancing so you can move easily.

Group audition process.  Actors are led through multiple improvisational exercises
including acting, movement and singing.

Rehearsals begin Sunday, September 23, 2012
The show runs  November 16 - December 2, 2012

Near West Theatre is housed in St. Patrick's Club Building on the 3rd floor which is not accessible to persons with disabilities (there is no elevator or chair lift). However, NWT is engaged in a process to build an accessible theatre in the Gordon Square Arts District at West 67th & Detroit. The conceptual design for the new building is completed, and the capital campaign is under way.
