Weathervane Playhouse in Akron will hold additional AUDITIONS on SUNDAY, AUG. 12 for its October production of the musical "THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD."

Several roles have already been cast from the first round of auditions in June -- but the show's director (Jim Weaver) is still seeking to cast four adult men and three adult women (ages 18 to 65 roughly) -- plus several adult males and females to complete the ensemble.

Auditions will be scheduled by appointment only in advance. Starting at 6 p.m. on Aug. 12, each audition appointment will be scheduled in a 10-minute block.
(The auditions will be at the Playhouse: 1301 Weathervane Lane, Akron, 44313.)
To make an audition appointment, please call the Weathervane Box Office at 330-836-2626 during regular Box Office hours only - Mondays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

If you are interested in participating in the production but cannot attend the auditions, please submit materials to director Jim Weaver via e-mail at weaver42c at gmail.com.

"The Mystery of Edwin Drood" plays at Weathervane Playhouse from Oct. 4 to 21, 2012 (Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.)

Rehearsals will begin Aug. 26.

>>> AUDITION PREPARATION

Please prepare TWO contrasting musical-theater songs in the style of the show.
Songs from this show are fine but are not required.

Bring sheet music with you in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided.

If you are interested in a particular character, it is fine to sing 32 bars of that particular character's song.

All actors need to be comfortable with movement/dance.

Various English accents are sought as the show's characters span all socio-economic classes of the Victorian era (from lower-class gravedigger to educated clergyman). Please note that the characters Helena and Neville Landless are East Indian immigrants from Ceylon.

The director may also ask those auditioning to do a cold reading from the script. (Copies of the script are NOT available for borrowing from the Playhouse.)

>>> ABOUT THE SHOW

When he died in 1870, Charles Dickens left behind an unfinished novel, upon which this playful show-within-a-show musical comedy is based. John Jasper is a choirmaster in love with his young pupil, Miss Rosa Budd. However, she's engaged to someone else - Mr. Jasper's own nephew, Edwin Drood. On a stormy Christmas Eve, Edwin Drood vanishes. Has he merely disappeared - or might he have been murdered? If it's murder, then next question is, "Whodunit?" Only the audience knows for sure, because - at each performance of "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" - the audience gets to vote on the solution that will determine the show's conclusion.
