Rehearsals will take place at Cleveland City Dance from September through December on Saturdays and Sundays.  The more advanced dances will also have additional weekly evening rehearsals.

If interested please leave a message at CCD, 216-295-2222
Pre-registration forms are available on line at www.clevelandcitydance.comor www.clevelandcitydancecompany.org

The audition assesses the dancer’s ability so that he/she may be appropriately cast in a role. Participation is voluntary; no Cleveland City Dance student is required to perform. A parent or guardian must attend a mandatory meeting after all auditions.

How does the casting work?
There is one cast. The casting is balanced by the dancers’ heights, abilities and number of dancers needed for each dance.  This also includes costume considerations. Certain dances such as the Gingers require smaller dancers while Waltz of the Flowers requires dancers on pointe at an intermediate to advanced level.

How should I dress?
Young Ladies should wear pink tights and ballet shoes with a solid color leotard.
Young Men should wear black tights & ballet shoes or jazz pants & jazz shoes along with a plain white t-shirt.

When will we know the casting?  Casting will be available the following Monday by calling the studio line 216-295-2222.   It will be posted the first Tuesday after the audition on the Company website www.clevelandcitydancecompany.org

Are there non-dancing roles?  Not at this time.

Are there roles for adults?  Yes as parents, however they do need to dance during the party scene.

When do rehearsals begin? Rehearsals start the week following the audition.

How often are rehearsals?
Every week for one to two hours, usually Saturday or Sunday afternoons, starting in September.  Some of the more advanced dances will rehearse on Monday, Thursday, or Friday evenings.

What are the fees involved with the “Nutcracker”?
Because the performance is staged by Cleveland City Dance Company, each dancer must pay a $65 rehearsal/costume fee. The rehearsal fee is used to pay rehearsal coaches who train the dancers for their parts and to support the other aspects of production, such as maintenance of costumes, scenery and props, stage contracts, lighting, guest artists, licenses and music.

What about costumes?
Cleveland City Dance Company maintains a costume inventory and is building costumes for this new production, so the “Nutcracker” costumes are loaned to the dancer free-of-charge in most cases. Many of the costumes cost well over $175 (some as much as $1000), so maintaining this collection reduces the cost of performing for our dancers. Dancers will have to supply their own shoes, tights, trunks and leotards.

Can families get involved too?
YES! Experienced and highly talented staffs of teachers prepare the children for their roles. However, an all-volunteer staff handles many other aspects of production. These volunteers assist in:  maintaining your child’s costume, assisting dancers backstage, setting up the backstage area, proofreading the program, arranging for advertising, selling tickets, ushering, printing the cast sweatshirt and more.  New hands are always welcome and very much needed! Please check the bulletin board for sign-up sheets.
