Cleveland Play House Seeks Full-Time Education Apprentice

Cleveland Play House's apprenticeship program is a season-long, intensive program that offers young graduates the opportunity to work alongside the nation's top theatre artists and professionals at a unique arts facility.  The program is tailored to provide the experience that will be most beneficial to each participant.  Apprentices become acclimated to a professional theatre environment in their individual area of interest, assisting in all aspects of CPH's top-tier productions.

CPH apprentices will:

  *   Engage in their discipline in a professional environment.
  *   Establish a set of skills in which he or she would like to improve throughout the course of the apprenticeship.
  *   Have the opportunity to improve upon the self-determined skills.
  *   Develop an understanding of engagement in a larger professional context.
  *   Network with professionals in all aspects of production.
  *   Become a motivated participant in the arts.


Apprentices will also have the opportunity to:

  *   Be involved in and attend all CPH productions.
  *   Attend CPH and Case Western Reserve University MFA program productions.
  *   Attend CPH's Show+ events, including Gen.NOW, nightOUT!, and College Night.
  *   Attend other events and functions offered by CPH, such as Backstage with CPH, CPH College, Educator Evenings, master classes, etc.
  *   Sit in on rehearsals of current CPH shows in which the apprentice is not involved.
  *   Engage in and benefit from the environment provided by the broader Cleveland arts community.


CPH apprentices should be detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, able to multi-task, and interested in working in a fast-paced environment.  Apprentices work full-time-a 40+ hour work-week-for the whole production season, from September to May.  Both Production and General apprentices may be required to work some weekends depending on rehearsal and event schedules.  Apprentices are provided with housing and will receive a $75/week stipend.


The education apprentice works with the Educations Department, which oversees all educational programming for CPH from grades K-12 to adult.  Programs include Student and Classroom Matinees, CPH College, CWRU Continuing Education courses, Play Dates, Educator Evenings, etc.

The apprentice will:

  *   Work with the Education Director and Associate to implement educational programs.
  *   Assist in preparation of materials for programs in the administrative office.
  *   Spend time working with teaching artists in rehearsal for the Classroom Matinee Touring Program as well as in a classroom setting.

Who should apply:
Ideal candidates have exceptional written and communication skills and enjoy working in a group setting.  Applicants must be flexible, creative, and able to take initiative.  Education apprentices are interested in teaching, administration, and finding new ways to bring theatre to the community.
