Arts in the Cathedral begins its seventeenth season with *BIRDSONGS AND
OTHER AYRES *on *Friday, September 28, 2012* *at 7:30 p.m. at Church of the
Saviour in Cleveland Heights. *This free concert features three popular
Cleveland-area performers: *Diane Menges, soprano; Betty Meyers, piano; and
Virginia Steiger, flute.*

On the program a unique assortment of birdsongs including *Good Morning Mr.
Bluebird!, **Le Rossignol *by Leo Delibes and Joaquin Rodrigo’s *Water Bird*
is paired with vocal music by Handel plus a flute concerto by Quantz. A set
of three Irish Folksongs (*The Sally Gardens, The Foggy Dew,* and *She
Moved Through the Fair)* by Grammy-winning composer John Corigliano will be
sung as well.



 In addition to active solo careers, all three musicians enjoy
collaborating. Virginia Steiger is a founding member of the Echowood Flute
and Percussion Ensemble, while Betty Meyers has served as accompanist for
the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and additional keyboardist for the Cleveland
Orchestra. Virginia and Betty have twice toured Nicaragua as a duo. Diane
Menges is the soprano soloist at First Baptist Church. Besides a solo
career including Apollo’s Fire and Choral Arts Cleveland, Diane Menges
performs in duo with Brian Kozak, guitar.



Church of the Saviour is located at 2537 Lee Road in Cleveland Heights, one
block north of Fairmount Boulevard.  The church has free parking and is
