                                            Poe Returns
                                      to Victorian Players

After a one year hiatus, Edgar Allan Poe will once again visit the Victorian Players during their current season.  The Poe shows, adapted by J.E.Ballantyne, Jr., have been a staple at the Mahoning Avenue theater since 2005 when the first one was presented.  This year, a new adaptation will be added to the growing list of shows presented each Halloween season.  This show will also make use of a multi-media format.

Edgar Allan Poe’s: The Masque of the Red Death, adapted and directed by Ballantyne will open on Friday, October 12 and run through Sunday, October 28.  As usual, there will also be two midnight shows which will be offered on October 20 and 27.  The Masque of the Red Death is one of Poe’s strangest tales.  It tells the story of a violent disease which is ravaging the countryside.  The effects are painful and morbid causing agonizing death within a half hour.  Prince Prospero, in an effort to avoid the disease, invites a large contingent of his most loyal followers to his secluded castle.  Once inside he welds the gates shut and forbids anyone from entering or leaving.  All inside can thus escape the gruesome predator.  In order to entertain his guests he invites them all to take part in a masquerade ball which he throws in lavish style.  The ball, however, provides opportunities for hidden identities which cause as many problems as
 the dreaded disease.

Starring as Prince Prospero is Dave Wolford.  Wolford has been seen on the Victorian stage many times in such productions as Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, Sherlock Holmes and the West End Horror, Block 5, Our Town and numerous others.  C. Richard Haldi, another Victorian favorite will portray the eerie character of The Red Death.  Haldi has pleased audiences with roles in Block 5, Sherlock Holmes and the West End Horror, An Evening of One-Acts, The Foreigner,  Edgar Allan Poe’s: The Black Cat, and many others.  Others in the cast are: Sam Luptak, Jr., Wayne A. Morris, Ed O’Malley, Ashley Balas, Chris Chaibi, Ryan Newell, Donny Wolford, Kathryn T. Adams, Gerri Jenkins, Vinnie Dragos,  Brittiani L. Ketcham, Brandi Hughes, and Audrey Allen.  Eric Dragos will serve as Stage Manager.

The Production Co-Partner is Philadelphia Candies.  The opening night audience will be treated to a wine and cheese reception prior to the performance.  Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling 330-746-5455.  Following the overwhelming success of the Victorian opening production of the season, The Odd Couple, everyone is encouraged to reserve tickets early as they are expecting a sell-out.  Adult tickets are $10.00 with Student and Senior tickets being $8.00.  Group discounts are available as are Special Student Group discounts.  The theater is located at 702 Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown.  The show is being co-Produced by J&BProduction Arts Services.
