The Cleveland Orchestra announces auditions for young dancers for The Joffrey Ballet's The Nutcracker


CLEVELAND - Young dancer auditions for The Joffrey Ballet's production of The Nutcracker performed with The Cleveland Orchestra at PlayhouseSquare will take place Saturday, October 6 at 10 a.m. in the Idea Center at PlayhouseSquare, located at 1375 Euclid Avenue.  This production of The Nutcracker runs from November 29 - December 2.
The Joffrey Ballet's The Nutcracker incorporates 60 young dancers into their Cleveland production this holiday season.  Eligible dancers include young people who are currently enrolled in regular dance classes and those who have had a minimum of two years of training.  All auditioning dancers must be between 9 and 14 years of age as of September 1, 2012.  Parts available include Party Girls, Party Boys, Mice, Soldiers, Dolls, Polichinelles, and Snow Tree Angels. Children dancing these roles must be between 4 and 5 feet in height.
Doors to the Idea Center open at 9:30 a.m. and auditions will begin at 10:00 a.m.

PRE-REGISTRATION FOR THE AUDITION IS REQUIRED!
Young ladies are asked to wear pink tights, a solid-colored leotard, and their ballet slippers.  Young gentlemen should wear a white t-shirt, black pants or tights, and their ballet shoes.  All dancers should pre-register online prior to October 6, and bring a current headshot or photo of the child no larger than 4" x 6".

Any young person auditioning for The Nutcracker must be available for ALL of the rehearsals and performances.  Those unable to commit to all rehearsal dates will not be eligible to audition. The Cleveland Orchestra brings The Joffrey Ballet's complete silver anniversary production of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker to PlayhouseSquare for five holiday performances at the State Theatre in downtown Cleveland (November 29 - December 2).  The Nutcracker will be conducted by Tito Muñoz.  These performances mark the first time The Cleveland Orchestra has ever performed in a full production of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker.  Conceived and originally directed in 1987 by Robert Joffrey, with contribution from Gerald Arpino, this production of The Nutcracker includes more than 40 company dancers, 200 brilliant costumes, and larger-than-life scenery.  Casting for this production will be announced at a later date.
