 (Berkshires, MA) Oct 15, 2012 – Moscow Ballet ispleased to announce that the Saturday, December 1, 3:00 matinee and 7:00pmperformances of MoscowBallet’s Great Russian Nutcracker have been moved to Cleveland’shistoric Public Auditorium Music Hall. Due to popular demand and in honor of MoscowBallet’s Children’s Miracle Network fundraiser forRainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, the performance venue is now convenientlylocated in the heart of downtown within walking distance of the rapid transitsystem. The venue providesaccommodations for special needs guests, including elevators, accessibleseating and restrooms, and a map for the visually impaired and has nearbyparking.  Public Auditorium andMusic Hall have hosted many notable events, including TheCleveland Orchestra’s75th anniversary concert in 1993 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductionceremony in 2009.


Tickets purchased prior to today can be exchanged for Music Hall seatsat the original point of purchase. New tickets can be purchased at www.nutcracker.com and throughTicketmaster 800-745-3000. New this year,Moscow Ballet partners with Children’s Miracle NetworkHospitals(CMNH) giving a portion of proceeds in cities nation-wide from GreatRussian Nutcracker tickets sold to CMNH partner hospitals. Moscow Balletsoloist Nataliya Miroshnyk visited with children at Rainbow Babies andChildren’s Hospital in September and for every ticket sold to the Clevelandperformance, the CMNH portion stays in town going to the hospital. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® raises funds for more than170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada, which, in turn,use the money where it’s needed the most. When a donation is given it stays inthe community, helping local kids. Since 1983, Children’s Miracle NetworkHospitals has raised more than $4 billion, most of it $1 at a time. 
 
After 2 sell-out performances, MoscowBallet returns to Cleveland with thespecial 20th Anniversaryproduction of the Great Russian Nutcracker overflowswith a spectacular new “Dove of Peace,” where 2 dancers become one stunningbird, inspired by the early works of Stanislov Vlasov, original choreographerand director of Moscow Ballet’s inaugural GreatRussian Nutcracker. The production also features a Christmas tree thatgrows to 5 stories tall; falling snow and Troika styled sleigh escorted by Russianfolk characters Ded Moroz (Father Christmas) and Snegurochka (Snow Maiden);towering hand-made silk puppets; 200 all new, lavish costumes; and 9hand-painted backdrops all set to Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s complete Nutcracker Suite score. For 20 years Great Russian Nutcracker performanceshave featured the finest Russian ballerinas and danseurs. From former Bolshoisoloist Stanislov Vlasov and partner Lilia Sabitova, People’s Artist of Russia,in 1993; to the classic Marina Alexandrova and Vitaly Zabelin in 1996; danseurand upstart choreographer Anatolie Emelianov and Honored Artist of Russia TatianaPredenia in 2002; Varna IBC Gold Medalists Cristina and Alexei Terentiev in2006; and award winning partners Karyna Shatkovskaya and Vladimir Tkachenko in2011. About the Performance - The GreatRussian Nutcracker, originally directed and choreographed by BolshoiTheatre soloist Stanislav Vlasov in 1993, debuted to rave reviews from the presswhich continues to this day. In 1993 from the Durham Herald Sun, “Impeccable technique,quicksilver footwork…expressive gestures carried to eloquent length” to 2010NY Times Chief Dance Critic,“Knockout…expansive…brimful with feeling.” Over 20 years the tour expanded its touringfrom eight to seventy cities across North America with two simultaneouslyperforming troupes of 40 Russian dancers each. The Great Russian Nutcracker is unique among Nutcracker ballets featuringRussian culture throughout. Father Christmas (Ded Moroz) and Snow Maiden(Snegurochka) escort Masha (aka Clara) and the Nutcracker Prince through theSnow Forrest in Act I and the “Dove of Peace” brings them to the “Land of Peaceand Harmony” in Act II.  The company of40 dancers features award-winning principals and top graduates of Perm,Vaganova and other schools, and also performs Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet,Sleeping Beauty and other storyballets.
