Local college faculty members create online outlet for fiction
KIRTLAND, Ohio – Faculty members at Lakeland Community College have
created an online literary magazine that publishes original, high-quality
short fiction and poetry. The first issue of the Chagrin River Review (
www.chagrinriverreview.com), features three works of fiction and seven
poems that were selected from over 120 submissions, representing writers
from as faraway as California and Maine.
“Taking a literary magazine to the Internet is a great way for us as
educators to reach a larger audience,” said one of the Review’s editors,
Angela Weaver, assistant professor of English at Lakeland.
Although, one goal of the project is to give emerging and established
writers a platform where they can share their work with literary
enthusiasts, another is to teach Lakeland students that they don’t need to
be a household name to have work recognized.
“I hope my students will find encouragement for their own writing and
communication ambitions as they read poems and stories from hardworking,
accomplished writers,” said Weaver.
The authors featured in the Chagrin River Review include: Barbara Brooks
(NC); Joan Colby (IL); James B. DeMonte (OH); Jéanpaul Ferro (RI); Sean
Forbes (CT), William Greenway (OH); Susan Grimm (OH); Mercedes Lawry (WA);
David Oestreich (OH), and Joann Smith (NY).
The Review is accepting submissions, regardless of theme, for its second
issue, to be published in the spring 2013. The deadline to submit pieces
for consideration is December 31, 2012. Submissions must be made online at
http://bit.ly/Q9mtEt.
