Cleveland Play House Seeks Full-Time Engagement Apprentice

Cleveland Play House's apprenticeship program is a season-long, intensive program that offers young graduates the opportunity to work alongside the nation's top theatre artists and professionals at a unique arts facility. The program is tailored to provide the experience that will be most beneficial to each participant. Apprentices become acclimated to a professional theatre environment in their individual area of interest, assisting in all aspects of CPH's top-tier productions.

The CPH Engagement apprentice will:

  * Establish a set of skills in which he or she would like to improve throughout the course of the apprenticeship.
  * Have the opportunity to improve upon the self-determined skills.
  * Develop an understanding of engagement in a larger organizational and civic context.
  * Engage in this discipline in a professional environment.
  * Network with professionals in all aspects of production.
  * Become a motivated participant in the arts.

Apprentices will also have the opportunity to:

  * Be involved in and attend all CPH productions.
  * Attend CPH and Case Western Reserve University MFA program productions.
  *   Attend CPH's Show+ events, including Gen.NOW, and nightOUT!.
  * Attend other programs and events offered by CPH, such as InsideCPH, CPH College, Educator Evenings, master classes, etc.
  * Connect diverse audiences and community to CPH's artistic core through specific, goal-oriented programs and events
  * Engage in and benefit from the environment provided by the broader Cleveland arts community.

The CPH Engagement apprentices must be detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, able to multi-task, and interested in working in a fast-paced environment. Apprentices work full-time-a 40+ hour work-week-from January to May. The Engagement Apprentice will be required to work some weekends depending on event schedules. Apprentices are provided with housing and will receive a $75/week stipend.

The Engagement apprentice works with the Artistic Associate-Engagement to pioneer new ways to enrich the experience of current patrons, and engage new, younger and more diverse audiences from across Cleveland and Northeastern Ohio. Engagement also functions as a nexus to facilitate cross-departmental cooperation within the organization, and therefore interacts regularly with every other CPH department.

Candidates should have:

* Experience with dramaturgy and research for production

* Superior people skills and enjoys interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds

*         Good writing skills

*         Strong organizational skills

*         Good problem-solving skills

*         Proactive

Who should apply:
Candidates should have a desire to help create holistic and lasting ties between the themes and ideas displayed in CPH work and the real lives of those in the community the Play House serves. Applicants should have knowledge of or interest in community organization and grassroots marketing. Practical experience with dramaturgy is valuable.
