Cain Park/City of Cleveland Heights announces that JACQUES BREL IS ALIVE AND WELL AND LIVING IN PARIS will be directed by Scott Plate in the Alma Theater during Cain Park’s 75th anniversary season in 2013. BREL is an American musical revue of the songs of Jacques Brel with lyrics by Brel, Eric Blau, and Mort Shuman, and book by Eric Blau and Mort Shuman. It will preview June 13, open June 14 and close June 30. Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7pm and Sundays at 2pm.

JACQUES BREL was produced by Ray Shepardson in the lobby of downtown’s State Theatre in 1973. Scheduled to run only two weeks, the production proved so popular it continued through 1975 with a 522-performance run that remained the longest theatrical run in Cleveland’s history for many years. BREL was directed by Joe Garry with music direction by David Gooding and featured David Frazier, Providence Hollander, Teresa Piteo and Cliff Bemis. BREL is credited as a major factor in the rescue and restoration of the State Theatre and its adjacent venues, which are now PlayhouseSquare.

Auditions for JACQUES BREL will occur in March with details forthcoming.
