*Fiction** *by Stephen Dietz will receive its regional premiere at Actors’
Summit, Akron’s professional theater. The production, the company’s 113th,
will have a preview performance on January 17 with the official opening on
January 18. The comedy will run for three weeks, closing on February 3rd at
Greystone Hall in downtown Akron.

*Fiction* is a witty, intelligent play about the intersection of literary
fiction and life. It centers around Linda and Michael, two writers who
revel in arguments about literary and popular culture. Each has prolific
private diaries of their lives, and these diaries soon become a catalyst of
the drama. After agreeing to read each other’s journals, Linda discovers
that Michael’s journals reveal his obsessive infatuation for many years
with Abby, a young woman that he once met at a writer's colony. The word
"fiction" soon comes into the plot and the audience begins to wonder
whether the diary entries are true, or could they just be in husband's mind
as fiction.

*The Playwright*

Steven Dietz is well known as the writer of cutting edge dramas. He has
written 25 plays, and all of them have been produced. In 2010, Dietz was
once again named one of the most produced playwrights in America (excluding
Shakespeare), placing eighth on the list of the Top Ten Most Produced
Playwrights in America, tied with Tennessee Williams and Edward Albee for
number of productions. Actors’ Summit has previously produced his *Becky’s
New Car.***

*The Critics*

* *

“Without giving away some of the play’s juicy revelations, let’s just say
that it continues to tease out questions about what is true, what is
fictional and what has been hidden.” Richard Connema

“*Fiction* keeps the audience on its toes. It’s quick, wordy, and full of
literary allusions and memorable one-liners. The play’s simple and
minimalistic staging allows the audience to keep on questioning what is
real and what is imagined.” Clare Canavan

“Playwright Steven Dietz offers a mental Rubik's Cube in *Fiction.*

Memory deceives. The written word tries to encapsulate memory, but it, too,
deceives — and sometimes it deceives deliberately.” Juliette Wittman
