Innovative solo-play ‘FOR PROFIT’ takes on Student Loan Debt CrisisCleveland, OH– The multi-city tour of Aaron Calafato’s new play ‘For Profit’will be presented at select colleges, universities and conferences beginning January 21, 2013. His performances will be followed by a special post-show panel discussion to provide a platform where issues regarding the student debt crisis can be discussed in detail.

The tour begins with a performance at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine with an MLK Observance, titled “Debt and Inequality: The Relevance of King’s Forgotten Economics Message.” Subsequent performances are scheduled for The College of Wooster, St. John Fisher College, Association of Practical and Professional Ethics and Jumpstart State Wide Financial Literacy Conference to name a few.

Months into his job moonlighting as an admissions counselor at a for-profit college, solo-actor Aaron Calafato began to go increasingly conflicted. “Caught between his personal values and the corporate values of his employer, Mr. Calafato wrote the first sketches of the play ‘For Profit’ in his lunch hours. Today, he is performing the play across the country on college campuses and in major city theaters.”

‘For Profit’has been called “a vibrant solo-portrayal of the exploitation of the American college student”and is told through the lens of an unwilling admissions adviser at a for-profit institution in an extremely innovation fashion. The Chronicle of Education said, “The play blends theatrical techniques of storytelling and acting, in tradition of the late monologist Spalding Gray”

Calafato also wants to put emphasis on staging numerous shows in his home state of Ohio, which ranks 7th in the nation with student loan debt, with graduates owing an average of about $27,700.00

Calafato says the mission of the tour “is to educate, inform, and create social dialogue about the national student debt crisis.”
Aaron is a recipient of 2012 Emerging Artist Grant from The Puffin Foundation. His work has been profiled in The Huffington Post, The Chronicle, The Fiscal TImes, TheHill, Washington Monthly, Campus Progress, and on NPR and WEWS-TV in Cleveland.
