Salem Community Theatre will hold OPEN AUDITIONS for the smash hit musical
comedy, CITY OF ANGELS on Sunday and Monday, January 20 and 21, 2013 at
7:30 PM.

Winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score,
CITY OF ANGELS is a swinging, sexy, smart, and hilarious musical comedy.

Set in the glamorous, seductive Hollywood of the 40's, the world of film
studios and flimsy negligees, the show tells the side-by-sides stories
about the "real world" misadventures of Stine, a novelist attempting to
adapt one of his books to the screen, and the "reel" world adventures of
Stine, his hard-boiled gumshoe hero, trying to solve a mystery in the
fictional world of the film. One features romance and Hollywood craziness,
while the other is a film noir netherworld with vicious thugs and femmes
fatales.

CITY OF ANGELS is the rarest of musical comedies: intricate lyrics filled
with puns and crackling rhymes, a sizzling jazz score, and a script that
couples sidesplitting comedy with noir intensity.

Music is by Hollywood musical grand master Cy Coleman (THE LIFE, SWEET
CHARITY, BARNUM, THE WILL ROGERS FOLLIES) It features a hilarious book by
Larry Gelbart (A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, TOOTSIE,
M*A*S*H*).

CITY OF ANGELS will be directed by MICHAEL DEMPSEY (recent local
productions include THE LAST FIVE YEARS, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, I AM MY
OWN WIFE, CURTAINS), with musical direction by BRENTON COCHRAN, director
and musical director of dozens of shows at North Canton Playhouse, Walsh y
and his own production company.

* **CAST:*

All actors with the exceptions of those playing Stine and Stone play at
least two characters (one in the “real world” and one in the “reel
world”). Supporting and ensemble roles will most likely be assigned

ensemble show. ALL ROLES ARE OPEN. There are non-singing roles for MEN.

standards. Please, no contemporary rock/pop musicals. An accompanist will
be provided. You may be asked to read from the script. Men auditioning
for non-singing roles can bring a short prepared monologue or will be asked
