Summit Arts Space is pleased to present the timeless classic play by Eugene
O’Neill *The Emperor Jones* this February in celebration of Black History
Month. The play will be presented Friday February 8 and 15 and Saturday
February 9 and 16 at 8pm and Sunday February 10 and 17 at 2pm on the second
floor of the Summit Arts Space located at 140 E. Market St., Akron, OH
44303.

This is an exciting new addition to all the great art that is already being
showcased in this space and will expand the venues for local Akron theatre.
The play is directed by Lois Elswick, a graduate student at the University
of Akron. The play stars Treviel Cody as the Emperor as well as Robert
Branch as Smithers.

*The Emperor Jones* made history by being the first play to place a black
actor onstage on Broadway and had a successful run of over 200 shows. It is
the tale of Brutus Jones, an African American who kills a man and is
imprisoned, then escapes to a Caribbean island where he assumes the role of
Emperor. The play is a heady mix of realism and expressionism and recounts
his journey to the throne as he flees from his rebellious subjects.

Tickets are $10 general admission and $7 for students and are available the
night of the show at the box office at the Summit Arts Space. For more
