Cleveland Public Theatre is seeking an exceptional Teaching Artist for its celebrated Brick City Theatre program. Teaching Artists of all performance-related arts disciplines are welcome to apply. This employee will report to both the Director of Education and the Education Associate. The Brick City Theatre summer program runs 9 weeks, mid-June through mid-Aug 2013. Sessions take place 4-5 days per week, Monday through Friday, daytime and early evening hours, with occasional weekend production meetings.


Program description
Brick City Theatre  An after-school and summertime theatre arts program for children ages 5-14 living in public housing, offered in partnership with the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA). CPT currently conducts Brick City Theatre at two different CMHA community centers. Under the dedicated guidance of CPT Teaching Artists, children enhance academic and life skills as they develop their own plays and perform them for their community. http://www.cptonline.org/cleveland-public-theater-brick-city-theater.php

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILTY
The Teaching Artist position has two areas of responsibility:
1)      Instruction: teach the basics of their primary discipline to children participants; create and implement curriculum; collaborate with Education Associate and other professional artists; develop original performance material; assist the Education Associate in the creation of two original theatrical productions
2)      Administration: work with Education Associate in all areas of program delivery: facilitate participant recruitment, management and evaluation; create daily class plans and reports; nurture strong relationships with parents/guardians and CMHA staff; generate publicity materials and production elements

Skills required

 *   Extensive experience in at least one theatre-related arts discipline (dance, drumming, singing, creative writing, etc.)
 *   Experience teaching children - demonstrated success with classroom management
 *   Qualified to be a strong role model for CMHA youth, particularly boys and young men
 *   Team player, willing and excited to team-teach
 *   Energetic, responsive, flexible, creative, and inspiring
 *   Attentive to details, ability to work independently
 *   Experience creating original material with young artists and open to learning new techniques in the creation of performance material

CONSIDERATIONS

 *   Artist must have a reliable vehicle
 *   Spanish speaking a plus
 *   Successful teaching artists will be considered for additional CPT teaching and artistic opportunities throughout the 2013-14 season
