SWAN Day CLE – 2013 – the PLAYS! -the PLAYERS!

On Saturday, March 30, 2013, Cleveland’s inaugural celebration of SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) Day, staged readings of 8 very diverse short plays. The plays were chosen from 143 international submissions by a committee of local writers and theater professionals.

A woman has a frank discussion with her, shall we say, private parts, which do indeed have their own voice (Down There, Sharon Goldner)
Duty to country and duty to the planet cause struggle for an Army lieutenant (At the Gates of the House of the Mother of Waters, Eli Effinger-Weintraub)
Four women explore their comically obsessive relationships with food (Beautiful, L.E. Grabowski-Cotton)
Fear of a nurse’s scorn challenges a lesbian’s fear of breast cancer (Are You Married?, Joan Lipkin)
Self-help is a homeless woman’s technique for helping herself to another’s life (The Exchange, Katherine Koller)
An unexpected set of standards changes a student’s preconceived notions (Red Pen, Kelly DuMar)
Adult sisters meet for the first time, with surprising results (Next of Kin, Stephanie Carrie)
The Wolf, Granny, and Little Red come to their own depraved, transformational conclusions (Highway 16, Claudia Barnett)
SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) Day is a 6-year-old international holiday celebrating women artists. Over its first 5 years, it was observed in 23 countries with over 900 events.
This is Cleveland's inaugural celebration!
