The Fables Foibles and falls of Members of the British Monarchy are delightfully exposed in WordStage’s
performances of an adaptation of John Barton’s ‘The Hollow Crown” – April 5
& 6 at 8:00pm.
“The Hollow
Crown “was devised for the Royal Shakespeare Company as a celebratory entertainment by and about
the kings and queens of England, and its informative, yet lively and
entertaining glimpses into British history and the private lives of the
monarchs have delighted audiences from London to Broadway.
Spanning the
centuries, beginning with the death of William the Conqueror in 1066 to Queen
Victoria’s description of her coronation, a quartet of performers present
poetry, prose, letter and diaries from the monarchs over a period of 800
years. Also included are chronicles written by their respective contemporaries
and self-styled historians – including a very witty fifteen year old Jane Austen, which describe
their subjects’ lives and reigns with mordant humor, stinging satire and,
sometimes, sincere sympathy. The
readings are delectably supported by music of the Monarch’s periods which includes songs and solo piano selections
performed by CIM faculty members baritone Mark Wanich and pianist Adam Whiting. WordStage Artistic Director, Tim Tavcar and
special guest artist Agnes Herrmann will
perform the provocative prose.
The
performance will take place at 8:00pm on Friday, April 5th, 2013 at
the West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church – 20401 Hilliard Blvd. in Rocky River, and at 8:00pm on Saturday, April 6th
2013 at the First Unitarian Church, 21600 Shaker Blvd. In Shaker heights. Tickets are available at the door beginning one hour before each performance. Suggested admission is
$15.00, and WordStage does maintain a “Pay What You Can’ policy to enable our
performances to be as accessible as possible to anyone interested in attending.
