Stage Left Theatre Company, best known for Shakespeare in the Square, is
thrilled to present the fast paced, laugh-out-loud comedy "All the Great
Books, Abridged". Following the comic format of the wildly popular "Complete
Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged" (and written by the same Reduced
Shakespeare Company), All the Great Books strives to condense classic
Western Literature into a single evening's entertainment performed by three
actors. No classic from "Beowulf" to "War and Peace" remains safe from the
slings and arrows of outrageous parody. "The Iliad" and "The Odyssey" are
combined as a joint sketch called "The Idioddity." "Little Women" is
explained in terms of football plays on a blackboard. And Charles Dickens
classic's becomes the steamy soap opera "Great Expectorations". This show
darts from satire to silliness to sophisticated irreverence with clever
spoofing, intelligence and wit.but it always ends up back at sheer
silliness.Full of physical comedy this trio of actors, Jim Dove, Rick
Rudolph, and Chuck Peery (all formerly of the popular "Rick and Jim's Big
Christmas Show"), attempts to achieve the fantastic feat of cramming 86
books, over 55 character changes, and an absurd number of ridiculous accents
into just ninety minutes.
