DOUBLE HEART (THE COURTSHIP OF BEATRICE AND BENEDICK), a new verse play by
David Hansen and directed by Lisa Ortenzi, will be presented at the 17th
annual New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC) is the largest
multi-arts festival in North America, with more than 200 companies from all
over the world performing for 16 days in more than 20 venues.

DOUBLE HEART, an imagined prequel to Shakespeare’s "Much Ado About
Nothing", envisions the early courtship of Beatrice and Benedick, providing
a fascinating back story to Shakespeare’s timeless tale. Written in poetic
verse, the play is a celebration of great characters and enthralling
language. DOUBLE HEART is appropriate for all audiences.

Times and dates to be announced in June.

Originally commissioned and produced by Great Lakes Theater as an
educational outreach tour, DOUBLE HEART traveled to 23 sites across
Northeast Ohio in early 2013, and seen by an audience of over 2,400. This
FringeNYC production is an independent venture, produced by members of the
touring company.

"You don’t have to know a thing about Much Ado to get a major buzz from
'Double Heart' ... The language is funny and at times quite elegant and
wise about issues of the heart." --Christine Howey, Rave and Pan
(Cleveland)

The FringeNYC production features the original company of artists as the
GLT outreach touring production: Cleveland actors David Hansen, Annie
Hickey, Emily Pucell, and James Rankin. The design trio of Terry Martin
(scenic design), Esther Haberlen (costume design) and Richard Ingraham
(sound design) complete the play’s production team. Choreography by Carli
Taylor Miluk. Lisa Ortenzi, the director of the touring production, also
serves as the Associate Director of Great Lakes Theater’s acclaimed
Education Program.

David Hansen is a playwright living in Cleveland Heights, and Supervisor of
GLT’s School Residency Program. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild, and
the Cleveland Play House Playwright's Unit. Works include Great Lakes
Theaterʼs outreach touring productions "Agatha Christieʼs The Mysterious
Affair at Styles" and "On the Dark Side of Twilight". Previous works
include "And Then You Die (How I Ran a Marathon in 26.2 Years)", "The
Vampyres", and his award-winning solo performance on stillbirth, "I Hate
This (a play without the baby)" which has toured throughout the Midwest,
New York City and Great Britain. This holiday season his newest work,
"Adventures In Slumberland", inspired by the works of Winsor McCay, will
debut at Talespinner Children’s Theatre. David was a 2010 Creative
Workforce Fellow, a program of the Community Partnership for Arts and
Culture, generously funded by Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.
