Sewing & Costumes at the Theatre
Ages 13 to 18
June 10 - 21
10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Tuition: $260

Instructor:  Nancy Humes, Seamstress, Costume Designer
Instructor: Jasen Smith, Resident Costume Designer, Costume Shop Manager

Learn the basics of sewing and work on the costumes for HONK! 
Do you have a pile of clothes that you LOVE, but need a small repair?  A hem needs re-stitched, a pair of pants that would make awesome capris?  Did you ever see an outfit in the store you adore... but costs too much?  Did you ever want to make something completely your own?  This class will show you how!

During class with Nancy Humes, students will learn to:
use a sewing machine
measure and make a pattern fit
sew a set in sleeve
sew darts
sew in a zipper
hem
cut out a pattern
construct a garment made from a pattern

During shop hours with Jasen Smith, students will learn:
to create a costume rendering
about the process of design from script to stage
to work in a team setting to accomplish goals
to work in a professional setting with both staff and volunteers.
  AND will apply the skills they have learned in the morning class.

Students will work on class projects from 10:00 to 1:00 with a lunch break at noon.  From 1:00 to 2:30 students will apply their skills in the costume shop by helping to construct costumes for Weathervane's summer production, HONK!  All necessary materials are provided with the cost of class.
