Derek Koger was, almost literally, raised in a theater. His father was an
award winning high school theater teacher and director. Derek has been
acting since he was nine years old. He moved to Cleveland in 1997 and has
been active in both community and professional theater ever since. As an
actor, he has appeared on the stages of The Beck Center, the JCC, Dobama,
Cleveland Public Theater (CPT), Willoughby Fine Arts, CVLT, and The
Cleveland Playhouse. As a writer, his works have been performed at Dobama
Night Kitchen, Willoughby Fine Arts, and with his own sketch comedy group,
Habitat for Insanity. A 2002 graduate of The Second City conservatory
program, he concentrated on improvisational acting and sketch comedy
writing. He spent two seasons as an Actor/Teacher with Great Lakes Theater
Festival’s renowned school residency educational program where he taught
theater and Shakespeare to kids from ages 7 to 18. He has served as
Associate Artistic Director of The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival, curator
of The Dark Room (a writers’ theater) for Cleveland Public Theatre, and as
a board member for The Cleveland Theater Collective. Most recently, he has
appeared in a lead role for the feature film *Made in Cleveland*. He lives
in Solon with his understanding wife and two amazing children.
