Karamu Performing Arts Theatre is holding Auditions for the production of
From my Hometown
A Celebration of the American Dream in Classic R&B

Conceived by Lee Summers
Written by Lee Summers, Ty Stephens & Herbert Rawlings Jr.

Saturday              August 17, 2013           1:00pm - 3:00pm

AUDITION PREPARATION
Karamu  is  seeking  3   African   American male  actors/singers/dancers.   All   must   be   able to play the age of 21 to 35. Performers must prepare  2 songs,  R&B  style,  one  up- tempo and one ballad. Singers must also be prepared to sing acapella. An accompanist will be provided. All will be asked to do a  cold  reading  from  the  script. Please bring Headshot and resume.

ABOUT THE PLAY
From My Hometown tells the story of 3 wide eyed strangers, with empty pockets and big dreams, who arrive in the Big Apple from Detroit, Memphis, and Philly with one goal in mind - to sing at the World famous Apollo Theater. Teaming up and blending the music sounds of their Hometowns, they form a brotherhood spanning more than a decade. This Rags to riches celebration of the American dream features Motown and R&B classics including, “Chain Gang”, “Sitting on the dock of the Bay”, and “Lonely teardrops”.


CAST OF CHARACTERS

Philly                 A nerdy Tenor-Baritone from Philadelphia, Pa
         
Detroit           A street tough Tenor, from Chicago by way of detroit 

Memphis     A country bass-baritone, from memphis Tennessee

From my Hometown is a performance driven peice, performers must possess the musical ability to bring Classic Sixties and Seventies songs to life. Each singer must have some gospel “riffs” and have the ability to hear and sing harmony and to find major and minor thirds (triads) by ear.


REHEARSALS consists of a 6 week rehearsal schedule, 3-6 time per week. The cast will receive a 
Rehearsal schedule by the first cast meeting or first rehearsal.
