Handle With Care

A romantic comedy by Jason Odell Williams



AUDITION DATES:

AUDITIONS will be held Thursday, August 29th at 7 pm at Actors’ Summit
located at Greystone Hall, 103 High Street, 6th Floor, Akron, Ohio
44308.  This is an OPEN CALL audition.  This means you do NOT need to
schedule an appointment, but you must be signed in by 7:30 pm in order
to be seen.  The lobby will open at 6:30 pm.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS AND PREPARATION



Please prepare one comedic monologue not longer than one minute in length.
You will be asked to read one or more scenes from the play.   Prepared
readings are preferred, although you may read cold from the script if
you choose to.  Audition scenes are available on Actors’ Summit
website at www.actorssummit.org



Equity actors are encouraged to audition.



If you were seen at Actors’ Summit’s general season auditions in July,
we do not need to see you again at this call.



PERFORMANCE DATES



Handle With Care will have 12 performances.  The play performs 3/27/14
through 4/13/14.  Performances are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at
8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm.



REHEARSAL DATES



Rehearsals will begin on 2/23/14.  The theater typically rehearses
Monday through Friday evenings and Saturday and Sunday during
daytime/early evening hours.  Actors MUST be available for the entire
rehearsal and performance period with no conflicts.

ABOUT THE PLAY

Handle with Care. a new romantic comedy, is the story of Ayelet, an
Israeli woman who is dragged by her grandmother on a road trip to
America in search of a dream.  Despite a botched package delivery, an
ill-equipped translator, and an unexpected blizzard on Christmas Eve,
the clues her grandmother deftly leaves behind eventually lead Ayelet
to find what she didn't even know she was looking for: her destiny.

CASTING REQUIREMENTS

Terrence:  American man, 30s. Works for DHL. Kind of a screw-up, but
very well meaning. A solid guy. Funny without meaning to be. More of a
character type.

Josh: American man, 30s. Handsome. Though wounded by a recent loss, he
still has an innate charming-shy-funny way about him. Tends to talk
quickly, words tumbling out when he is nervous.

Edna: Israeli woman, early 60s- late 70s. Ayelet’s grandmother
(“Safta”). Loves life. A ball of vitality and vigor. Actress has a few
lines in Hebrew and must be able to sound fluent (even if she is not).

Ayelet:  Ayelet is an Israeli woman, 30s. Name is pronounced
“eye-YELL-et”. Beautiful, lovely, but lost her smile. Practical.
Focused. Searching for more from life, but afraid to admit it. MUST
SPEAK HEBREW IN THE PLAY.  Actress must be fearless and committed to
learning the lines in Hebrew through phonetics and audio tapes.
Hebrew necessary for the production if she does not already speak
Hebrew.

ABOUT THE PLAY’S DIRECTOR

Constance Thackaberry will be directing the production.  At Actors’
Summit she has directed Motherhood Out Loud, A Girl’s Guide to Coffee,
Becky’s New Car, A Christmas Carol, Last Train to Nibroc, Big Boys,
Clarence Darrow, Nixon’s Nixon and Rounding Third and has assistant
directed many other productions for the company.
