Drama, rescue, restoration — you’ll find it all
at PlayhouseSquare, the largest performing arts center in the country outside
New York City and the world’s largest theater restoration project.
Meet in the State Theatre lobby at 10 a.m.
for a behind-the-scenes tour with author Jeannie Emser Schultz. Then, meet the
celebrity guests who led the crusade to save and restore these beautiful
buildings: Ray Shepardson — who received a 2013 Governor’s Award for the
Arts in Ohio for his theater restoration efforts around the country that
began in 1970 at PlayhouseSquare; and Joe Garry, who directed the stellar
production of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris that
led Clevelanders to fall in love with live theater in Cleveland again. This
event is hosted by Ohioana and Ohio
Magazine senior editor Linda Feagler.

Following
the morning at PlayhouseSquare, we move to the Cleveland Public Library for
refreshments and a presentation of WVIZ’s acclaimed documentary, Staging
Success: The PlayhouseSquare Story, produced in celebration of the center’s
90th birthday. Staging Success: The PlayhouseSquare Story is a WVIZ/PBS
ideastream® production in collaboration with Think Media Studios made possible
by the Cleveland Foundation and in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County
through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.

This
free event is presented by the Ohioana Library Association in partnership with
the Ohio Center for the Book @ Cleveland Public Library. Space is limited. Deadline for registration is September 6. To register, please call the Cleveland Public Library Literature Department @ 216-623-2881or the Ohioana
Library Association @ 614-466-3831.
