*A synopsis of the play:* Antigone is the daughter of Oedipus Rex of
Thebes. He has died, and her two brothers argue over the throne. Brother
Eteocles takes command and exiles Polyneices. Polyneices returns with an
army from Argos. The armies war, and the brothers kill each other. Uncle
Creon becomes King. He proclaims that Eteocles will be buried with honour,
and Polyneices, whom he considers a traitor, will lie where he fell, food
for hungry birds of prey. Anyone who dares bury him will be executed. The
play opens on the morning after the battle and moments after the decree.
Antigone makes her own choice and follows her heart and beliefs--to bury
her brother.
