Renaissance Playwright  Barbara Torelli's   Partenia takes  the Stage at the Beachwood Library
Thursday October 17 at 7:00 pm.

Never heard of Barbara Torelli, or her play Partenia? Then come to this program!

"Written in 1587  Partenia, defies the stereotype of the silent and submissive female in the Renaissance era. Torelli subtly yet deftly steers the shepherds and nymphs who populate this pastoral drama in ways that raise an oppositional voice to arranged marriage and spousal abuse as well as to demonstrate the moral superiority of female friends over their male counterpart” says   CWRU’s Barbara Burgess-Van Aken, Ph.D.who  has just published the definitive study of this barelyknown work. Barbara will discuss the play, and students will perform select scenes.

Free and open to the public. The Beachwood Branch is located at 25501 Shaker Blvd at the corner of of Shaker Blvd W and Richmond Rd.  Please register by calling 216-831-6868 or at the Beachwood page at http://www.cuyahogalibrary.org/
