Actors needed for scenes from JACOB’S LADDER SURFACE by Deborah Magid,
directed by Brian Pedaci

Seeking non-Equity actors of any ethnicity for assorted roles in this
modern-day interpretation of OTHELLO. Minimal rehearsal, 3 performances of
a 10-15 minute scene, commitment between *9/28* and *10/17*. If
interested, please send photo/resume to Brian Pedaci <bpedaci at gmail.com>
ASAP.

Just like Shakespeare’s OTHELLO, it’s all about Recognition. Recognition
of a PhD candidate’s accomplishments versus her advisor’s sense of
entitlement. Recognition of how a 2D surface folds, knots, and layers into
the multidimensional world. Recognition that what you feel you deserve
isn’t always what you get.
*CHARACTERS (5 W; 2 M)*

*Jacob Leiter* (mid-40s/50s) Tenured professor of Mathematics at
Polytechnic College. Attractive, intelligent, conservative.

*Desirée Schroeder *(Dez) (mid-50s) Professional mathematician, PhD
candidate in Leiter's department, strong, smart, proud, loyal, naive,
mouthy.

*Rory *(late 20s) PhD candidate; Jacob’s Graduate Assistant and lover,
Ethereal, submissive, manipulative, not nearly as intelligent as the others
but thinks she is. *CAST*

*Emmie Leiter* (40s/50s) Jacob’s wife, artist, addicted to Jacob.

*Otto Moore* (40s/60s) Dean, formerly in advertising, high up in
Salvation Army ranks. *CAST*

*Cassidy Michaels* (30-ish) was given Omega Chair of the Mathematics
Department over Jacob. MANY tattoos, crazy hair, crazy dress, very hip/now.

*Louise* (60s/70s) Department Secretary. Canny, submissive-seeming,
beautifully mannered, unrequitedly in love with Jacob.

Leap/Conceive is a new development series meant to support work at the
midpoint in the creation process. *Leap/Conceive* fosters the development
of new performance and places a special emphasis on serving work that may
not benefit from conventional staged readings or script workshops.

Audiences get a sneak peek into the creative process as Cleveland Public
Theatre presents 7 showcases from performances that are being developed by
Northeast Ohio creators. Artists choose a 10-15 minute segment of their
future production to develop and share. The environment is part vaudeville,
part rehearsal, part workshop as audience and artists see the work
together, assess it and offer their reactions.
