"The Rocky Horror Show" Opens Friday



The Rocky Horror Show will play on 
October 4, 5, 6, 11,12, 13, 18, and 19 

Friday and Saturday shows begin at 8 p.m. 

Sunday shows begin at 2 p.m.

The 2013 - 2014 G. B. Community Theatre season at the Ashtabula Arts Center will open Friday night with the favorite cult classic "The Rocky Horror Show." Performances will be held October 4, 5, 6, 11,12, 13, 18, and 19. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 8 p.m. Sunday shows begin at 2 p.m.

"We have already talked to lots of patrons are very excited to dress up and take part in traditional Rocky Horror antics," says PR/Marketing Coordinator Pamela Hammond. "We have set up two different sections of the theater. One down front for those who want to get in on all the action and one further back for those who simply want to watch and not go home with their hair full of rice and toast crumbs." 

Directed by Marti Dixon of Geneva, Richard O'Brien's "Rocky Horror Show" is a humorous and interactive musical that tells the story of a newly engaged couple who get caught in a storm and take refuge at the mysterious castle of a mad transvestite scientist, Dr. Frankenfurter, who is in the midst of bringing his creation, a muscle man named Rocky Horror, to life.

The musical has developed a cult following with audience members dressing up as their favorite characters and bringing props, singing along to favorite songs and dancing in their seats. 

 "Open flames are completely prohibited," says Theater/Music Coordinator Kimberly Godfrey. "And we are asking that you don't bring squirt guns or put butter on your toast! Rice, newspapers, flashlights, toilet paper, confetti, dry toast, party hats, bells, cards, and hot dogs are all acceptable."

"The Rocky Horror Show" is not intended for children and contains material that may offend some people. 

Tickets for "The Rocky Horror Show" are now on sale for $14 adults, $12 Seniors and Students. Or you can save $2 per ticket by purchasing tickets in advance. Advance sale tickets must be purchased before 4 p.m. on the day of the show or by 1 p.m. on Saturday for Saturday and Sunday performances. Tickets can be purchased over the phone with a credit card by calling (440) 964-3396 or can be purchase with cash, check or credit card at the Ashtabula Arts Center's box office during regular business hours.

 

In addition, "Dinner Before the Show" will be held prior to the performance on October 12. Dinner seating begins at 6:30 p.m. and costs $16 in addition to the cost of your theater ticket. Reservations and prepayment are required by noon on Wednesday, October 9 unless dinner seating sells out prior to that time.  The evening's chef will be Sandra Barron. The set menu will include Toasted ciabatta with pumpkin butter, Eye-popping soup, Decomposed salad, Meatloaf cupcakes, Tim Curried pumpkin and peas, Janet's Boston "scream" pie, and assorted beverages. Reservations can be made by calling the Arts Center at (440) 964-3396.
