Plot: In late 19th Century New York, Clarence Day thinks he’s in control of his household. He has another think coming.

Auditions by Appointment (330-836-2626) (4 actors per 15-minute increment)

Sunday, November 3 beginning at 5 p.m. and

Monday, November 4 beginning at 7 p.m.

Preparation: Actors will be asked to read from the script. Please arrive 15 minutes early to be assigned a scene and have a chance to read through it with other actors.

Cast Requirements:

The Day family should all be red-headed. Performers auditioning for these roles should be willing to rinse their hair auburn; wigs are an option. The four sons could be played by young actors slightly older than the ages listed.

8 men including 3 younger boys

6-8 women

Clarence Day, Esq.: Father or "Clare," 40's-50's. A prosperous New York businessman who likes to think he rules the roost at home, strives for peace and order, and is undermined at every turn by his boisterous family. A role meant for an experienced actor with great comic timing!

Vinnie Day: 40's. Mother, who probably knows best! She is a loving and devoted mother and wife; light-hearted, patient, and a tad ditsy.

Clarence Day, Jr.: The eldest son at 17, he will be entering Yale in the fall, trying to be "his own man," but utterly unprepared for his first love.

John Day: 14 years old, enterprising, jockeying for position, eager to please, loves sports.

Whitney Day: 10 years old, active and lively, preparing for his confirmation, but would rather be playing baseball.

Harlan Day: 7 years old, loveable and good-natured.

Cousin Cora: 30's-40's, Vinnie's "country cousin," talkative, energetic, fun. Not red-headed.

Mary Skinner: A very pretty wide-eyed girl of 17, visiting the big city for the first time. (Could be played by a slightly older actress.)

Reverend Lloyd: The Rector of the Episcopal Church that the Day's attend. Proper, professional, but good-hearted and patient with the children. Character role, age flexible.

Dr. Humphreys: The family doctor, 40-60's. Serious, professional.

Dr. Somers: Another physician, a cameo role. Flexible age.

Margaret: The devoted family cook and servant, good-humored and tolerant of all the shenanigans of the household. A character role, 30-60's, fun.

Annie, Delia, Nora, and Maggie: 16-46, four fun cameo roles for women who play the ever-changing maids hired to work in the Day household. A running gag in the play! They should all be different. (But that doesn't mean they couldn't be played by the same actress, or two.)
