Many parallels run between the lives of Dr. Katherine Brandt and Ludwig van Beethoven in 33 Variations. For instance, Dr. Brandt is recently diagnosed with ALS as she races to finish her research, while Beethoven is going deaf as he obsesses over the completion of a simple waltz. Although they struggle with their deteriorating health, both are driven with passion to overcome any obstacles that stand in the way of their goals. These journeys are nothing short of inspiring and life-affirming!

To find out more about ALS and hearing loss, please attend this Sunday's 3 p.m. performance followed by a discussion with the doctors that assisted the company of 33 Variations. Their expertise not only benefits the production, but allows audience members to better understand the play. Post-show talks will surely enhance the 33 Variations experience!

Saturday, October 26 (8 p.m. Show)

  * Dr. Eric Pioro, MD, PhD, Director of the Section of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and related disorders at Cleveland Clinic
  * Lisa Bruening, MS, CCC-SLP, Director of Care Services and Speech Pathologist, ALS Assoc. of Northeast Ohio
  * Daniel Shapiro, Internationally renowned pianist and a leading interpreter of Beethoven; a faculty member of the Cleveland Institute of Music. His beautiful recording of the Diabelli Variations is available on CD
