[NEohioPAL] DREAMGIRLS at Akron School for the Arts starting 11.20.13

Many Akron School for the Arts students will be “livin’ the dream” with
upcoming performances of the popular musical *Dreamgirls* at Firestone High
School. *Dreamgirls* will be presented in the Linda B. Kersker Auditorium
for five performances starting at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013.
Additional performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 21,
Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23, 2013. A single matinee
performance will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2013.



Advanced tickets to the Firestone Theatre production of *Dreamgirls *cost
$8.00 and are available online at BrownPaperTickets.com, by mail order, and
in the school commons during all lunch periods starting no later than
Monday, November 18, 2013. Tickets purchased at the door cost $10.00 and
will be available starting one hour before each performance. Special VIP
tickets are available for $13.00 and include a reserved seat as well as
access to the VIP Room before the show and at intermission. Alumni of
Thespian Troupe 5570 are invited to attend the show at no charge for the
Wednesday evening and Saturday matinee performance.

 A special soul food dinner will be served between the matinee and the
evening performance of *Dreamgirls* on Saturday, November 23, 2013.
Seatings are at 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. The dinner includes fried chicken,
mac-n-cheese, green beans, cornbread, pound cake, and lemonade. An order

*Dreamgirls* features the music of Henry Krieger and a book and lyrics by
Tom Eyen. It is packed with toe-tapping musical numbers and follows the
compelling story of a young female singing group who become music
superstars. It is loosely based on the real-life stories of performers such
as The Supremes, The Shirelles, James Brown and Jackie Wilson. It first
appeared on Broadway in 1981 and earned six Tony Awards. It was made into a
major motion picture in 2006.



The Firestone Theatre production of *Dreamgirls* is under the direction of
Mark A. Zimmerman. A team of dedicated, talented guest artists complete the
production team. They include Ron Hazelett (music director), Sheena Mason
(choreographer), Randie O. Sass (costume designer), and Elynmarie Kazle
(production manager).



The Akron School for the Arts is a nationally recognized visual and
performing arts institution of the Akron Public Schools. It is located on
