                         Lee Harvey Oswald on Trial
                           at the Victorian Players

The Victorian Players and J&B Production Arts Services will present the theatrical event of the year in Youngstown.  Specter of Treason-The Oswald Trial by J.E.Ballantyne, Jr. will open on Friday, November 22, 2013 --- 50 years to the day of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas.  Specter of Treason is the fictitious trial of suspected JFK assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald.  Oswald was killed on November 24, 1963 by Jack Ruby before he could have his day in court.  Specter looks at what might have happened if Oswald’s trial had taken place.

Leading the cast of 30 plus actors are Alan McCreary and Brady Flamino.  McCreary plays lead prosecution attorney Gerald Michaelson who heads a group of attorneys trying, what they feel, is an open-and-shut case against Lee Harvey Oswald being played by local favorite John Pecano.  In the original production in 1996, McCreary was on the other side of the aisle as defense attorney Richard Donnally.  Playing Donnally in this new production is Brady Flamino.  Donnally is faced with what seem to be insurmountable odds as he attempts to prove his client, Lee Harvey Oswald, innocent of killing the President.  What makes this production unique is that the audience serves as the jury and will render the verdict at the end of each performance based on the evidence presented during the production.  To aid in tabulating the votes, Turning Technologies will be on hand with voting clickers for fast results.

Others in this “who’s who” in local acting talent to appear in the production are Christopher Haddock, Tom Smith, Derek Steyer of WFMJ-TV21, Barbara Malizia, Tara Schomer, Thomas Lee Ewen, C. Richard Haldi, Dave Wolford, Tom Hathhorn, Vinnie Dragos, Bill Finley, Mary Rosenberg, Grace Offerdahl, Bill Nibert, Rich Morgan of WKBN, Ryan Newell, Don Wolford, Jack Hay, Stan Boney of WYTV, Cher L. Halas, Glenn Stevens of WFMJ-TV21, Tom Kusiowski, Jim Petuch, Terri Wilkes, Matt Schomer, Gary Deckant, Stephanie Sarrach, Sam Luptak, Jr. Dawnelle Jewell and Regina Reynolds.
Many of the actors take on dual roles to portray the 54 characters in the script.

All information on both the prosecution and defense sides is research based from 10 plus years of Ballantyne’s research, some of which came from actual eyewitnesses and police officers involved in some aspect of the case.  The show will open on Friday November 22 and run three weekends through Sunday, December 8.  Tickets are $12.00 for adults and $9.00 for students and seniors.  Season tickets cannot be used for this production.  Evening performances begin promptly at 7:30 pm with Sunday matinees starting promptly at 2:00 pm.  RESERVATIONS ARE A MUST since opening night is already half sold with other performances picking up steam.  Reservations may be made by calling 330-746-5455.  JFK & Dallas, a JFK assassination seminar will also be presented at Youngstown State University on Saturday, December 7.  Nationally known researchers will attend the seminar headed by Dr. Cyril H. Wecht of Pittsburgh.  Information will follow about the
seminar but to find out more and to register to attend, go to www.specteroftreason.com and click on the JFK & Dallas page.

JFK and Dallas sponsors are The DeBartolo Corporation, Chalet Premier, Turning Technologies, America’s Best Value Inn & Suites, Victorian Players, Forty-Two Event Production, YSU History Department, The Youngstown Torch Club, J&B Production Arts Services.
