Independence Community Theatre presents
Once Upon A Mattress

Fridays & Saturdays at 8pm & Sundays at 2pm
Nov. 8 - 23

If you thought you knew the story of The Princess and the Pea, you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that Lady Larken's love for Sir Harry provided a rather compelling reason that she reaches the bridal altar post haste? Or that, in fact, it wasn't the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night?

Independence Community Theatre is thrilled to present Once Upon A Mattress, directed by Jennifer Sindyla, along with Musical Director Gail Wirick and Choreographer Debbie Conway.

Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and wild, romantic and melodic, this lively spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans.

Music is by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller and Marshall Barer.

Brief Synopsis:
In this hysterical tweaking of the fairy tale, The Princess and the Pea, the kingdom is an unhappy one. Queen Aggravain has ruled that none may marry until her son, Prince Dauntless marries a princess of Royal blood. However, she has managed to sabotage every princess that comes along. When Sir Harry and Lady Larken learn that they are going to be parents, wed or not, Sir Harry goes off to the swamps and brings back an ungainly, brash Princess Winnifred, ("Fred" to her friends). The queen is horrified and immediately begins to scheme. However Winnifred, with some help from Sir Harry, the King, and the Jester, isn't going to be quite so easy to get rid of.

Performances are Fridays & Saturdays, November 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23 at 8pm, and Sunday Nov. 17 at 2pm. Show tickets are $12. For tickets or more information call 216-447-0443.

Sindyla has both directed and performed in Independence over the past decade. Most recently, she directed Godspell last fall and previously appeared in Nunset Boulevard as Sister Robert Anne spring, 2012. Wirick is also no stranger to Independence Community Theatre, as she has been the musical director for several shows. Conway is a dance instructor for O’Connor Dance Studio and most recently choreographed last fall’s production of Godspell.
