The Hudson Players open their 69th season this weekend with Peter Shaffer's
Enlighteningly Funny Farce, *Black Comedy.* This side splitting one-act
comedy features reverse lighting where light is dark and dark is light.
Thus characters stumble around blindly in the light but the audience never
searches for laughs. The story, from acclaimed playwright Sir Peter
Shaffer (Amadeus, Equss), starts when a power outage foils the plans of a
young sculptor to impress his fiance's father and a millionaire art
collector with furniture he "borrowed" from his out of town neighbor. His
schemes are plunged into chaos when a fuse blows and his neighbor returns.
Unexpected guests, aging spinsters, errant phone cords and other snares
impede his frantic attempts to return the stolen items before the light is
restored, but of course ensure that hilarity ensues.
