About CPT New Play Development
Cleveland Public Theatre has six areas of New Play Development Programming, each falling at a unique stage in the development process.
Full Productions this year include 11 productions, 7 of which are world premieres. We are committed to growing local new work for our main stage as well as sharing national artists with our community.
Nord Playwright Fellowship is a year-long program for a local emerging playwright. Supported by the Nord Family Foundation, CPT initiated this program to provide greater support to the region's playwright community and create active artists.
Big Box offers artists or groups the opportunity to self-produce their own works of theatre, dance, performance art, music, or genre defying performances. Big Box is about whatever the artist wants to focus on. We open the doors and let the artist experiment, charting their own course, making their own decisions and taking their own risks.
Leap/Conceive looks to reach beyond the text and conventional theatre making to experiment with a short segment of a larger piece nearing readiness for production. It is about trying new ideas and sharing work in an open forum. Leap/Conceive is open for diverse kinds of performance of multiple disciplines, created in traditional and non-traditional processes.
SpringBoard is a staged reading series that seeks to nurture the growth of emerging and established directors, support the development of new scripts, and act as a catalyst for forming and deepening relationships between playwrights and directors. Springboard will invite the audience to play a part in the process through publicly performed stage readings and post-show discussions.
The Darkroom provides an informal and casual opportunity to showcase theatrical material for an audience and encourages artists to show work in its earliest stages.
