The Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute (HBTI) will be offering a single
half-day workshop for Getting Into Character and two half-day joint
workshop sessions for Script Analysis this January!!!

Getting Into Character: Learn techniques on how to get out of the way and
let the character emerge; how to step into her/his shoes and see life
through her/his eyes. This workshop is for You!--the actor who wants to
continue to develop skills and techniques. You know how to identify the
objective, the obstacles, the relationships, the who, what, were, when, but
the "how" can be most challenging. Explore various physical and internal
techniques that can open the door for you. This workshop will only be
available for Grades 5-12 on January 2, 2014 from 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM.
(Instructor: Molly Cornwell)

Script Analysis for Actors, Directors or Designers: This workshop will
provide theatre artists the tools to investigate important aspects of a
play's structure, including the main action, plot, character, theme,
exposition, and imagery. It will also provide a technique for breaking a
play down into playable beats and actions, from start to finish. Students
will be required to read (in advance of the workshop) *Backwards and
Forwards* by David Ball, and *The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon
Marigolds* by Paul Zindel. These two half-day joint workshops will only be
available for Grades 7-College on January 2 and 3, 2014 from 1:00 PM - 4:30
PM. When registering, the student will be signing up for both half-day
workshops (January 2 and 3) at the same time. (Instructor: Fred Sternfeld)

Molly Cornwell has been teaching and directing at HB since 1994 and has
established a strong theatre program offering two main stage productions a
year. In addition, she teaches many Upper School and Middle School

Play House, the Hanna Theatre, the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Dobama
Theatre, Beck Center for the Arts, Eldred Theatre and others.

Fred Sternfeld is the Executive Artistic Director for the Hathaway Brown
Theatre Institute. He has also directed performing arts camps in Seattle
and Dallas, was drama director at the Cleveland JCC’s Camp Wise for two
summers, and ran a youth theatre at the Cleveland JCC in the late seventies
as well as recently creating and directing Fairmount Performing Arts
Conservatory’s summer program for eight seasons. Additionally, he is a
proud member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC);
serving as the artistic director of several theatres as well as accruing
numerous free-lance credits.

Both workshops will be at the Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, OH.
