Beck Center for the Arts Youth Theater, the oldest continuously running Youth and Teen Theater in the country, will be holding auditions on September 21 & 22, 2014 for the third production of our 65th Anniversary Season. Call 216.521.2540 x10 to reserve one of the remaining audition slots!

The Children’s Hour
Written by Lillian Hellman
Directed by Jonathan Kronenberger
Performing in the Studio Theater

The Story: One of the great successes of this distinguished American writer, The Children’s Hour is a serious and adult play about two women who run a school for girls. After a malicious youngster starts a rumor about the two women, the rumor soon turns to scandal.
As the young girl comes to understand the power she wields, she sticks by her story, which precipitates tragedy for the women. It is later discovered that the gossip was pure invention, but it is too late. Irreparable damage has been done.

Audition dates:
(open to Beck Center students ages 12 to 19*)
Saturday, November 30: 2:30 to 4:30pm
& Sunday, December 1: 1:30 to 3:30pm
Callbacks: Monday, December 2 from 5:30 to 8:30pm

What to Prepare:

Students are asked to prepare a short monologue to present
as their audition piece. Memorization is encouraged.

You can sign up for a one-hour audition slot at Beck Center’s Customer Service Desk.

Or by calling 216.521.2540 x10.

*Please note:

Youth Theater roles are only eligible to students who will be enrolled in our Winter/
Spring 2014 semester. Actors do not necessarily need to be enrolled at the time of the auditions, however, participation in the actual production does require Beck Center enrollment. Students do not need to be specifically enrolled in a Theater class at Beck Center to qualify. Students who will be enrolled in a Winter/Spring 2014 semester class in Beck Center’s Dance, Music and Visual Arts Departments are equally eligible.

Bottom line: if you are accepting a role in the show, you will need to enroll prior to the start of rehearsals. Any questions, please feel free to contact Jonathan Kronenberger, Associate Director of Theater Education, at 216.521.2540 x27.

Our 2014 Winter/Spring catalog will be available online starting December 6 at www.beckcenter.org<http://www.beckcenter.org>.

Unlike some other youth theaters, there is NO additional participation fee required beyond enrollment.
