CPT's Teatro Publico de Cleveland
presents an encore performance of
Cuando Cierras Your Eyes | When You Close Tus Ojos
December 13 & 14

Cleveland, OH - Back by popular demand, Cleveland Public Theatre's Teatro Publico de Cleveland will present an encore performance of their inaugural production, a work-in-progress entitled Cuando Cierras Your Eyes. In November, the play was performed to sold-out houses and Cleveland's newest Latin American theatre ensemble hopes to build on the momentum of what was deemed "some sort of miracle" and "a major cultural event" (La Prensa, Ohio & Michigan's largest Latino/Hispanic newspaper).

When You Close Tus Ojos weaves comedic scenes, ancestral stories and haunting tales into an original story that celebrates the multiplicity of Latin American identities in the Cleveland area. The play was developed collaboratively by Teatro Publico de Cleveland ensemble members and CPT's Executive Artistic Director, Raymond Bobgan.

"I think it's beautiful how you can share your culture and you learn about your friends. It's one of the most beautiful things I take from Teatro Publico."
- Ernesto Luna Camargo - Teatro Publico de Cleveland ensemble member

The new play development process included a series of free, open-to-the-public theatre and storytelling workshops held at the Cleveland Public Theatre and the Julia De Burgos Cultural Arts Center in Cleveland's Gordon Square Arts District neighborhood. Community members shared stories, family memories and legends originating from their native countries: Uruguay, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Peru and Colombia.

The 2013 Teatro Publico de Cleveland ensemble is comprised of amateur and professional theatre artists: Antonio Barrios, Ernesto Luna Camargo, Liz Gonzalez, Dante Fernando Larzabal, Letitia Lopez, Lorna McLain, Alejandro Moreno, Alejandro Rivera, Neiza Rivera, Rafael Rivera, Blanca Salva and Pablo Santiago.

Teatro Publico de Cleveland was created through the Cleveland Foundation's "Engaging the Future" program. The program seeks to support the growth of a Cleveland-based Latin American theatre ensemble, whose work will reflect the artistic goals, interests and ideals of its members. Teatro Publico community partners include the Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center, Artistas Latinos Unidos and Young Latino Network. John Shibley of EmcArts served as the project consultant.

The work-in-progress play Cuando Cierras Your Eyes will be presented for an encore performance on December 13 and 14, 7:00pm, at Cleveland Public Theatre's James Levin Theatre, 6415 Detroit Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44102.

Tickets to this event are $6 and available for purchase online at www.cptonline.org<http://www.cptonline.org>, by phone at (216) 631-2727 x 501, or at the door.
