Lend Me a Tenor is a fast paced comedy set in a hotel suite in 1930’s
Cleveland. Tito Merelli, world-famous tenor, is brought to the Cleveland
Grand Opera Company by its manager, Saunders, for a one-night only
performance of Otello. After a brawl with his wife, however, Tito takes a
double dose of medication and passes out. Max, Saunders assistant, thinking
Tito is dead takes the place of Tito for the performance. What ensues:
mistaken identities, scantily clad women, and a happy ending for all!

Character Breakdown:

Max: (25-35) The nervous, eager-to-please assistant to Saunders and wanna
be fiancé of Maggie. Must be able to fake an Italian accent and carry a
tune.

Maggie: (18-30) The pretty and quirky daughter of Saunders. Obsessed with
Tito.

Saunders: (35-60) General manager of The Cleveland Opera Company and
Maggie’s father. An authoritarian figure prone to fits of anger.

Tito Merelli: (30-40) World famous tenor. Must be able to do an Italian
accent and confidently carry a tune.

Maria: (25-35) Tito’s wife. Sensual but very fiery too. A Sofia Vergara
type. Must be able to do an Italian accent.

Bellhop: (15-35) Excitable and full of energy. Obsessed with Tito Merelli.
Must be willing to sing but doesn’t have to be well.

Diana: (25-35) The soprano of the opera. Beautiful and quite the
seductress.

Julia: (40-65) The chairman of the Opera Guild. A quirky and persuasive
woman.
