Due to a health emergency, Dobama Theatre is recasting the role of ESTHER in
the world premiere of MADE IN AMERICA by Joel Hammer. 

We are seeking an African-American actress age 28-40 to play the role of
ESTHER. There is an AEA contract available for this role. Non-AEA actor
contract pays $500. See below for character and show descriptions.

Performances: March 7- April 6, 2014. Rehearsals begin Feb. 10th.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION: ESTHER (28-40) is a savvy, African-American business
woman who has traveled across the country to meet up with a purchasing agent
she has been communicating with over the phone.  They meet for the first
time in a hotel bar.  The white male purchasing agent has a very large order
that will soon be placed.  He's an underhanded guy and makes a deal for the
order of which he has no authority to place.  The second act takes place in
her hotel room where he is found tied to the bed.  She has learned that he
lacks authority and has tried to use her.  She is, as you might expect, not
too happy. She is referred to in the script as being "hot".  We are looking
for someone who can sell industrial products in a man's world - someone who
uses her sex appeal to get what she wants and someone who is hungry enough
to go after it.

 

Play synopsis: A hotel bar. Esther, a savvy sales rep, and Barry, a buyer
for a manufacturing company, finally meet to "seal the deal" after months of
negotiating over the phone. Upon seeing each other, they begin a cat and
mouse game that falls into dangerous territory. But all is not what it seems
in this World Premiere by Dobama Artistic Director Emeritus Joel Hammer.

 

Production dates: March 7, 2014 to April 6, 2014. Preview date: March 6,
2014

 

Rehearsals begin Feb. 10, 2014
