Karamu Performing Arts Th eatre is holding Auditions
for the production of
It’s a Bird... It’s a Plane... It’s Superman
a Musical Comedy

Book by: David Newman and Robert Benton
Music by: Charles Strouse / Lyrics By Lee Adams
Based on the comic book character Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster
and published by DC Comics.

PERFORMANCE DATES: April 19th - May 4th, 2014
(Saturday an d Sundays only)

AUDITION DATES
Saturday February 8, 2014 4:00p.m. - 6:00p.m.
Monday February 10, 2014 7:00p.m. - 9:00p.m.
Tuesday February 11, 2014 7:00p.m. - 9:00p.m.

AUDITION PREPARATION
Roles are availiable for teens thru young adults, all Nationalities are welcome.
Please prepare a one minute memorized musical selection, and a one minute memorized monolouge
from a play. All will be asked to do a cold reading from the script. Bring sheet music, an
accompanist will be provided. Th ose that are auditioning for dance only, please come dressed for
movement.

LOCATION 2355 east 89th Street, Cleveland Ohio

ABOUT THE PLAY
The plot revolves around Superman’s eff orts to defeat Dr. Abner Sedgwick, a ten-time
Nobel Prize-losing scientist who seeks to avenge the scientific world’s dismissal of his brilliance
by attempting to destroy the world’s symbol of good. Additionally, Superman comes
into conflict with Max Mencken, a columnist for the Daily Planet newspaper, who resents
Lois Lane’s attraction to Superman.

REHEARSALS
Consists of a 8 week rehearsal schedule, 3-6 time per week. Th e cast will receive a Rehearsal schedule
by the first cast meeting or first rehearsal.
