Cleveland State University Department of Theatre & Dance Presents
LYSISTRATA
February 27 - March 9 at the Allen Theatre Second Stage

CLEVELAND, OH (Feb. 14, 2014) - Cleveland State University's Department of Theatre and Dance, a Resident Company of PlayhouseSquare, continues its second full season in the Allen Theatre complex with the production of ancient Greek political comedy "Lysistrata" from Feb. 27 through March 9 at the Allen Theatre Second Stage.

Written by Aristophanes and directed by CSU Professor Allan Byrne, Lysistrata is an Athenian woman who is tired of war and the treatment of women in Athens. In an act to change her situation, she meets with the women of Greece to hatch a plan to end the Peloponnesian war. What is her brilliant tactic? Lysistrata wants them all to refuse sex with their husbands until a treaty for peace has been signed. Contains mature content.

Combining startlingly relevant topics with over the top sexual buffoonery, "Lysistrata" is a plea for peace wrapped in comic layers of the wiles and the equality of womanhood.
